The ILKAR project uniquely combines three areas
Inherent Instability of Storage Media
Sound carriers are -- like most storage media -- inherently unstable. They suffer from an irreversible degradation process which eventually causes the destruction of the carrier along with the information stored on the carrier. An appropriate storage and careful use of the storage media can slow down the degradation, but cannot prevent it infinitely.
